Cyclone Gabrielle was expected to bring extreme winds and rainfall across the Auckland commencing Sunday 12 February. Winds in excess of 120 km\/h (74 MPH) to 130km\/h  (80 MPH) are forecast with speeds up to or exceeding 150km\/h in some areas. These wind speeds have the potential to cause damage to power and telecommunications infrastructure.
